AGIMUS at BI-MU conference

From 9 to 12 October 2024fieramilano Rho was staged for the 34th edition of BI-MU, the most important Italian exhibition dedicated to the manufacturing industry of metal cutting and metal forming machine tools, robots, automation systems, digital and additive manufacturing, auxiliary and enabling technologies.

Our partner PAL Robotics, presented the AGIMUS Project to this conference, since our project focuses on creating an open-source framework that enables robots to autonomously plan and execute complex manipulation tasks in real-world environments with minimal human intervention. The BI-MU Conference was the perfect platform to introduce visitors to this project and showcase how our TIAGo++ robot is involved.

More specifically, the BI-MU conference is Italy's only trade fair for the sector with a truly international scope. As the first to embrace industrial connectivity, it showcased innovations across various areas. In addition to machine tools and production systems, the event featured eight exhibition themes: Robots, Additive Manufacturing, Digital Solutions, Metrology, Power Transmission Systems, Heat and Surface Treatments, Composites, and Consulting.

The exhibition was enriched by a cultural program of in-depth discussions, organized by both exhibitors and the event organizers, held at the BI-MUpiù arena.

A special project focused on education, aimed at bridging the gap between schools and enterprises by fostering relationships between students and industries in need of skilled, motivated young professionals for future factories.

Promoted by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, Italy's machine tools, robots, and automation systems manufacturers' association, and organized by EFIM-ENTE FIERE ITALIANE MACCHINE, the 34th BI-MU was a certified sustainable event, adhering to environmental, economic, and social sustainability principles with ICIM ISO 20121 certification.

So, in more detail, how the AGIMUS project is related with the exhibition themes of BI-MU conference?

Τhe AGIMUS project is designed to enhance AI-driven agile production in robotics. This project focuses on developing robots that can quickly adapt and perform efficiently in manufacturing by using advanced AI in perception, planning, and control. The goal is to equip robots with the skills to handle varied manufacturing tasks with minimal setup and maximum autonomy.

In our project, PAL Robotics utilizes TIAGo++ to showcase breakthrough innovations in agile production. TIAGo++ is central to testing how robots can autonomously perform complex tasks in manufacturing. The project involves enhancing TIAGo++ with advanced motion planning and control techniques, demonstrating its capabilities in real-world industrial scenarios, thereby advancing the state of robotics in agile production environments.

In conclude, we are glad that we had the chance to participate in such an interesting and vulnerable conference to expand our knowlegde in the field of robotics.
